Rating: The Folks at Bayfest Really outdid themselves this year. The idea of having something for everyone at a bargain basement price and having the some of the best of every style of music was fulfilled this past weekend.I'll take Alice in Chains & VR for $35 for a weekend pass over Rage & Smashing Pumpkins at the Voodoo Music Fest for $115 anyday. The show Friday night would have been worth it if the prices were reversed.I had only one chance to see STP or G&R over all the years and that was when STP was going to open for Kiss on the Reunion tour in 1996 when Scott ended up in rehab before the show. Those of you old enough to remember The Verve Pipe will know that it wasn't an adequate replacement.
The show itself as stated in many of the other postings was absolutely awesome from Let it Roll all the way through Slither in the encore. Getting older I could relate to the part in the middle of the show where they need to bring out the chairs to perform The Last Fight,Plush and Patience.A good mix of STP & G&R classics let us experience what we could have seen years ago for us older fans and playing all but about 4 tracks off of each of the VR albums stayed true to the newer fans.Over the course of the weekend we were able to see Alice in Chains, Operator, Hellyeah, Flyleaf and Daughtry and while all of them put on great performances it was like comparing Minor Leaguers to an Allstar game.
If word spreads about this festival people would find out that no matter what their taste in music that it is well worth the trip to Mobile to experience.Where else could you send Mom & dad to see the Ohio Players & Chaka Khan,if you are an older rocker see Bad Company, Foghat, Blue Oyster Cult and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, send your rapper to see Ludacris and your country loving sister to see Leann Rimes & Big & Rich all for only $35
Too bad travel wasn't a possibility because despite the cost it would have been well worth the trip to have driven to Tampa and caught them again at the Ford Saturday night.
If you get the chance regardless of cost make sure you catch this show if it makes it around your way.
amazing as always!
