I was on Slash's side of the stage and had my own private concert six inches in front of my face! That man is beautiful on the outside and on the inside--a real positive Being. I read that it was his first Sturgis rally, so he was in his Metal element at the Chip and full of excitement.
Duff, Scott, and Dave came over frequently but didn't stay as long as Slash did!
Fifteen years ago I was a medical student living at that Ft. Meade VA hospital on the highway to the Buffalo Chip and the only way I could get through all that loneliness the other 51 weeks of the year was my GNR! Fifteen years later, out in the middle of nowhere, an explosion of guitars, drums, and singing screamed away any loneliness out of that place forever. It will never be the same because of the magic those men brought.
Slash made sure I had a guitar pick, which I will cherish forever because of all this culmination of feeling, experience, and connection! Matt passed a drumstick to a friend, who gave it to me for my son.
They played a mixture of primarily VR, first lightening bolting the crowd with "Do it for the Kids" to scare the sh*t out of people who weren't familiar with their KFA thrashing; some STP, "Vaseline," mimicking the rolling pipes of a Harley (or other road sled of your choice) and some GNFNR, namely "Mr. Brownstone" (one of those that reverberated through the walls at Ft. Meade.) "Patience," a song I hear in my head when I can't get to sleep, was in the encore. Slash played the double acoustic guitar and Matt accompanied on the tambourine while Scott, Duff and Dave sang.
I have been looking at their meet and greet tour schedule, and hope that they make it to Madison or Milwaukee Wisconsin sometime.

IT WAS AWESOME!!! Finest concert experience so far, truly a dream come true. It was my first time seeing VR and I paid extra for the Buffalo Chip's VIP upgrade so we were right up front against the stage. We stood towards Dave's side of the stage so only wished I could have seen more of Slash's performance, but him and Scott came over and played/sang in front of us a couple times. It was great being right in front of Dave and Duff though so can't complain. My husband told me Duff even smiled at me at one point (like I didn't notice?!?) probably cause we (ok, mostly me) were going crazy, jumping and screaming, etc. The guys all looked so amazing (it was surreal seeing them in the flesh - I'm still giddy over it!) and they KICKED ASS ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! There is just no one better when it comes to putting on a pure, live rock n roll show IMO. We even got to see Slash backstage (omigod!!! I was so trying to not completly freak out!) for a few minutes before the show, but I was too shy/awestruck to approach him. Scott and Matt walked thru too as we were standing there. Oh, and Matt handed me a stick after the show!!! It was a lot of fun and I’m glad I was finally able to catch one of their gigs - they're legends!
I will post the few not-great pics we took a little later if I can figure out how.
